Montblanc

.. is a prestigious brand which makes up part of the Richemont luxury group. Richemont brands read like a who’s who of the luxury world. Their companies include Cartier, Vacheron Constantin, IWC, and Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Montblanc has been making writing instruments in Hamburg since 1906. Their distinctive precious resin pens are instantly recognisable and have been a must-have executive accessory for more than a century.

The company takes its name from the highest peak in Europe, Montblanc, and this is represented in its logo. The white star on a black background is a reflection of the snow-covered peak of Montblanc and is now a well-known symbol in the world of luxury branding.

Montblanc is celebrated for its craftsmanship and quality. The company remains firmly rooted in Europe and continues to successfully produce artisan-crafted writing instruments despite the digital revolution. Their continuing success has largely depended on diversification including the production of other executive accessories and, of course, watches.

Luxury brands across the globe have faced stiff competition in recent years and, for many, diversification has been the answer. From sunglasses to luggage and makeup, high-end brands are reinventing themselves for a modern audience. In many ways, this is what Montblanc has achieved with its watch range. Successfully extending its product line, it has maintained a distinctive aesthetic and exceptional standards of craftsmanship.

Now, Montblanc has created a diverse and exciting range of watches, with something to please every watch lover – from the classic dress watches (showcased in the Star Classique range), to the more contemporary TimeWalker watch (featuring an automatic movement). All Montblanc watches are built with the same exacting precision and care that goes into their writing instruments.

SWISS CRAFTSMANSHIP
Earning a place in the prestigious world of luxury Swiss watchmaking is no mean feat, but it’s something Montblanc has achieved remarkably quickly. Their first watch was produced in just 1997 and by 2006, Montblanc was a fully-fledged watchmaker.

Montblanc hasn’t shied away from Swiss expertise either, with their watches made and designed in the Jura region of Switzerland. Alongside prestigious neighbours like Breitling, TAG Heuer, and Patek Phillipe, Montblanc is creating some of the most exciting new luxury watches around.

The acquisition by the Richemont Group of the prestigious manufacture, Minerva, allowed Montblanc to become a true watchmaker in every sense of the word. The acquisition allowed Montblanc to inherit a wealth of watchmaking knowledge and expertise.

Importantly, Montblanc has also gone on to develop its own in-house movement, which first featured in the Nicholas Rieussec Chronograph. Launched in 2008, this distinctive watch is powered by the MBR200 movement, featuring twin barrels which allow the watch to have a 72-hour power reserve. The model is named after the famous watchmaker Nicholas Rieussec, who invented the first inking chronograph in 1821.
