To many people, Seiko is just another watch brand – but if you’ve made it to this far, you know that nothing could be further from the truth.

For over 135 years, Seiko has been cranking out innovative and impeccably engineered watches at every price point, from the entry level Seiko 5 to the stunning Grand Seiko.

This model is affectionately known as the “Helmet” or “Vader” thanks to its large, deep case and steeply angled lugs. The dark dial features bold contrasting chronograph hands and a quick-setting day/date display with English/Arabic day wheel at 3:00.

With their unmistakable profile, these Seiko ‘Helmets’ are probably the most distinct entry to vintage Seiko.

Adjust day/date on a 6139

The quickset mechanism on your watch is a two position push type. Push the crown in once and the date wheel will turn. Keep pushing it deeper to it’s second position and the day wheel will turn. To set the date, put the time somewhere between 0300 and 0900, set the day and date to yesterday, then cycle through the hours until the day and date change over to today. Don’t forget that whichever language you set the day to is the language that will be displayed. also don’t forget to cycle the hours enough to account for AM or PM.
